As Sonya’s tragedy is repeated on UK televisions next week, Toadie Rebecchi of Neighbours suffers.
Toadie and Sonya were married before Sonya died of cancer in 2019. Melanie Pearson is Toadie’s current girlfriend.
When Toadie observes Melanie from afar at the garden nursery in the coming scenes, he has a flashback of Sonya.
Toadie starts to remove himself from Melanie and later tells Karl and Susan Kennedy about the flashback, including the fact that it’s never happened with any of his prior relationships since Sonya’s death.
Susan ends up imparting some knowledge to Toadie.
Melanie and Toadie eventually have a chat. He admits to feeling guilty since he feels like he’s taking Sonya’s place.
Melanie answers that she would never take Sonya’s place and that she wants to keep Sonya’s memory alive.
As a consequence, Toadie and Melanie form a strong relationship, and they quickly shift their focus to Jane Harris and Clive Gibbons, another couple that has lately had difficulties.
After his favourite house plant Herbert died after some turmoil at Number 24, Clive is still unwilling to speak to Jane.
Will Toadie and Melanie be able to assist the pair in their reconciliation?
