Clive Gibbons, who has played Ramsay Street for 35 years, maybe forced to leave the Channel 5 soap because he is confronted with an unenviable option.
Clive (Geoff Paine) is one of the last remaining characters from the Channel 5 soap opera Neighbours, who first featured in the first episodes in 1986. The doctor has been on the program on a semi-regular basis, and most recently, he has been in a relationship with Jane Harris (Annie Jones). If his old sweetheart Sheila Canning (Colette Mann) begins to seek him again, the stalwart may be divided between the two ladies and decide to leave Erinsborough in search of happiness elsewhere.
Jane and the doctor’s relationship hasn’t been on the best of terms recently, after she admitted to killing one of his prized plants.
Their romance didn’t cease as a result of this, but Clive needed time to adjust to what his love interest had done to him.
This could’ve been the ideal opportunity for Sheila to swoop in and reclaim her guy, but they’ve had too much history together.
They split up last year when the Canning grandmother decided to tamper with the medical records of her grandson Levi Canning (Richie Morris).
The adored character was desperate to get him back at first, but she has given up her quest in recent months.
However, as the drama on Ramsay Street continues to unfold, and Jane is distracted by her daughter Nicolette Stone’s (Charlotte Chimes) antics, things between Clive and his former girlfriend may begin to develop.
Sheila might ask the medical professional to spend some time with her as friends if she notices he appears to be lost.
As they reminisce about the past, sparks may fly between the former lovers as they realize their affections for one other are still strong.
This might put Clive in a difficult position, as he is torn between staying with Jane and returning to Sheila.
Colette, the actress who portrays Sheila, addressed if her alter-ego still has a shot with her former boyfriend in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk .
“I imagine there would be some very severe arm-wrestling between Sheila and Jane,” the soap actress revealed.
“[Sheila] isn’t going to give up the Clivester lightly,” Colette teased, implying that her character’s connection with Clive may have more to come.
Unfortunately, when the medical professional ponders which lady he should spend the rest of his life with, he may be limited to only one option.
Knowing he needs a break to make up his mind, Clive might inform his pals that he would be absent from Ramsay Street for an extended period of time.
With no set timeline in mind, this may be the final time fans see the popular character, as he may never return to avoid having to choose between the two ladies.
Jane and Sheila may be distraught when they learn Clive isn’t coming back, and they may turn on one other in an attempt to figure out who’s to blame.
As the ladies cry out in one other’s arms at their loss, this may bring them closer together, and their friendship could become even stronger.
Jane and Sheila might spend more time doing the things they couldn’t do with a love partner now that Clive isn’t in the picture.
It wouldn’t be the first time Clive has left the drama since he was gone from the drama from 1989 until 2017.
Geoff, the actor who portrays the stalwart, has already shown interest in learning more about what happened to his character during his time away from Erinsborough.
“It’ll be interesting to see how they fill in the missing decades,” Geoff remarked, “since he started off as a bit of a renegade and a free spirit.”
“Trying to break free from a traditional lifestyle, and then wondering what happened in the last 30 years to turn him into the serious kind.”
“It pops out in him now and again, the cheekiness and fun of old Clive, and it’s great to watch.”
In an interview with RadioTimes.com, the soap star remarked, “There was nothing he wouldn’t do back in the day.”
Viewers of the show have taken to Twitter to express their feelings on Clive’s recent appearances.
On the social networking platform, one user wrote: “Jane and Clive have a fantastic working connection. They are always very supportive of one another; I’m pleased they found one other, and I’m glad Jane has him as a #neighbour.”
Another user commented: “I’m certain that Clive and Jane can get over this, based on the way he forgave Sheila all those times. She didn’t break into his office or steal medical records or anything #Neighbours.”
A third, on the other hand, stated: “Clive used to be so hip, didn’t he? “Isn’t it time we meet Clive’s family?” a fourth said on Twitter. #Neighbours.”
“More Clive and Jane moments are desperately needed! They’re fantastic together! #Neighbors, #Neighbors, #Neighbor “a fifth remarked
On Channel 5, Neighbours airs weekdays at 1:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
