Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander-Smith), a nasty serial killer, maybe set to murder once more after being jilted at the altar in a surprise EastEnders wedding.
The show’s actors and crew have been filming scenes on the location that depict Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Denise Fox’s wedding (Diane Parish).
Gray is also a groom for a second ceremony on the same day, in an unforeseen change of events that screams shotgun wedding.
Gray’s marriage expectations, on the other hand, seem to be doomed, as he has been caught looking furious after his fiancee abandons him at the altar.
Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) would seem to be the most likely unlucky bride, given that she is pregnant with Gray’s baby and that it would make more sense for her to share a wedding day with her mother Denise.
Gray and Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), on the other hand, have been becoming closer, with Whitney’s penchant for falling for the most dangerous men biting her again.
Gray’s outbursts in public, including in front of the family of his first wife Chantelle, whom he murdered in cold blood, could reveal his true colors.
We show him being accosted by Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol), who had accused Gray of being involved in Chantelle’s murder all along.
Gray is then seen being taken away, looking murderous – is he on his way to take vengeance on the woman who deputed him?
Or will he be stopped before he can claim another victim?
Gray will have his comeuppance, but showrunners have hinted that there is much more to come, and they have remained tight-lipped about whether he will kill again before being revealed.
‘After Chantelle’s death, Gray’s tale was always supposed to be a lengthier arc,’ EastEnders senior executive producer Kate Oates told Metro.co.uk. ‘ Despite the fact that some of his actions were excessive, they were always founded in Gray’s character.
‘He’s a pathological narcissist: everything he does is meant to fit a narrative that exonerates him and portrays him as a decent guy.’
‘I believe we have a character in Gray who tells himself that Chantelle died in a horrific accident, that Tina had to die so he could be there for his kids, and that Kush had to go because he and Whitney were meant to be.’ Nothing is his fault since he is the center of his own universe.’
‘We’re getting close to the end of the Gray storyline,’ said boss Jon Sen, hinting at what’s to come. ‘And with that, the next chapter begins.’
‘It’s been a long continuing story with a lot of unexpected twists, but we’re getting back to the basics of the story — really bringing it back to its roots.’ For the Atkins family, it’ll be an interesting turn of events.’
‘Life will throw Gray a curveball; something out of his control, that will bring the story back to its roots as he tries to start over in a new relationship,’ Kate added.
‘However, Gray hasn’t been as smart as he thought. Smoking firearms are strewn about the Square, waiting to be discovered. Gray’s demise is near.’
These sequences are scheduled to air around the time of the New Year.
