Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby on Coronation Street, has said that she and Imran Habeeb may foster additional children in the future, acknowledging that the fostering plotline is “very fantastic to explore.”
Georgia has commended Coronation Street for casting a “spotlight” on the problem of fostering – and revealed if she believes Kelly will return to the cobbles as Toyah and Imran wait for Kelly Neelan’s sentence for Seb Franklin’s murder. Kelly was fostered by the couple after they took in a baby during Christmas.
“I believe she would prefer Kelly back, but it would be fascinating to see if the chance to foster another kid arises while Kelly is in prison,” Georgia said ahead of the court announcement next week. “Toyah’s maternal instincts are something she can’t turn off.”
Toyah is a more realistic person, whereas Imran has grown overly invested in Kelly’s situation. Toyah genuinely cares for Kelly, but she’s also realistic about her prospects of escaping.”
Georgia said that she would love to see her character and Imran “care after another child” in the future, adding that Toyah would gladly welcome Kelly back “with wide arms.”
“I believe it gives a really fantastic chance for a range of narratives,” she added, “and when you look at a variety of ages of various children – that’s what’s really intriguing to explore, the difference between them fostering an infant or fostering a problematic adolescent.”
“Both provide significant obstacles, resulting in a great deal of variation. I hope it continues because I believe it’s a fantastic way to learn new things.”
Georgia said, citing Corrie’s history of nurturing storylines with Rita Tanner, Anna, and Faye Windass: “I believe it’s a great idea to draw attention to it. It’s great to see that tradition continue.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
